Over Kristin

Most organisations I work with don't have a communication problem. They have a structure problem.

Their teams produce content constantly, such as posts, reports, donor updates, and internal announcements, but without a system behind it. No governance. No shared messaging. No way to prove to the board that any of it is working. And now AI is in the mix, adding speed but also risk if it isn't governed properly.

I'm Kristin Unger, founder of Alive Communication. I have 15+ years of experience across DAX30 corporate environments, tech, automotive, media, and the NGO and B Corp sector. I've built media relations frameworks during global restructuring at Continental, co-created a communications planning software, and won the International German PR Award for Corporate Communications.

What I do now is take everything I learned inside large, complex organisations, i.e., the governance models, the editorial architecture, the measurement frameworks, and build it for purpose-driven organisations that are growing fast but communicating like they're still a startup.

I call this CommsOps: Communication Operations. The infrastructure layer beneath your content. The system your team works from.

I work best with: NGOs, B Corps, and purpose-driven organisations with 50-1,000+ employees whose communications aren't working at the level their mission demands.

Alive Communication is a boutique B2B communications consultancy specialising in Communication Operations (CommsOps) for NGOs, B Corps, and purpose-driven organisations that are growing fast but communicating like they're still a startup.

I founded the business on a single insight: most organisations don't have a communication problem. They have a structure problem. Too many channels, too much content, no governance, no measurement, and no clarity on how AI fits in safely.

My work combines communications strategy and operational infrastructure. I build the frameworks, playbooks, AI workflows, and KPI dashboards that turn communication from a reactive function into a strategic, repeatable operating system. What I call a CommsOps system.

Services range from the CommsOps Blueprint (a 3-week diagnostic producing a full communication operating system roadmap) to System Implementation, Fractional Head of Communications engagements, and targeted packages including communications audits, messaging architecture frameworks, and LinkedIn thought leadership systems for senior leaders.

Clients are typically Executive Directors, CEOs, Heads of Communications, and COOs at organisations where mission-integrity is non-negotiable and communications needs to perform at the level the mission demands.

Award-winning methodology. DAX30-tested frameworks. Built for impact.

Female Ventures is a Dutch non-profit empowering women in business and entrepreneurship. Over the past two years I have grown from Marketing Lead to City Director to National Marketing Director, a progression that reflects both the expanding scope of my role and the organisation's own ambition.

In my current role as National Marketing Director, I lead the strategic evolution of the Female Ventures brand across the Netherlands. I oversee a team of seven marketing professionals (all volunteers) and hold a dual mandate: building a robust national presence while equipping local city chapters with scalable marketing frameworks they can actually run.

The centrepiece of this work is architecting the Female Ventures National Marketing Operating System: governance, AI-enabled workflows, KPI dashboards, and editorial frameworks that allow volunteer teams to communicate with speed, consistency, and authenticity at the same time. This is CommsOps in practice, built for a decentralised, mission-driven organisation.

Alongside the operational build, I am leading the creative and strategic execution of the Female Ventures 10-year anniversary campaign. A milestone moment requiring national coordination, storytelling depth, and local chapter alignment simultaneously.

Earlier, as City Director for Delft/The Hague, I grew the local chapter to 1,000+ members and led a team of seven volunteers. As Marketing Lead before that, I built the chapter's marketing infrastructure from scratch and launched the Your Venture blog, ranked in the Top 30 Dutch Business Blogs globally by Feedspot.

    External Communications Specialist
    SOFTWAREPRODUCTIE
    juli 2024 - juni 2026 (1 jaar en 11 maanden)
    Zoetermeer, Nederland
Joined ORTEC, a global leader in AI and data optimisation, to build and lead external communications from a strategically underdeveloped starting point. Within ten months, I launched a structured thought leadership framework, introduced KPI dashboards, and achieved a 76% increase in Insight article views while maintaining a ~69% engagement rate; meaning quality held as volume scaled.

I served as Editor-in-Chief of Data & AI in the Boardroom, ORTEC's flagship thought leadership publication. Under my leadership, the magazine was distributed for the first time directly to customers, prospective clients, and global sales and key account teams transforming it from an internal asset into an active commercial tool.

I co-lead ORTEC's website realignment project, working across divisions and with the external digital agency to optimise the platform for commercial performance, SEO, and user experience. I collaborated closely with global and divisional marketing teams, industry leads, and the Design Studio to ensure communication is cohesive, measurable, and aligned with business goals.

Top-performing LinkedIn content under my direction reached 31.86% engagement rate. This role ran concurrently with Alive Communication, reflecting my broader commitment to building communications infrastructure that delivers measurable results.
