👋 Hi, I’m Maurits — a seasoned full-stack developer with a passion for clean architecture, team leadership, and delivering high-impact digital products.

Over the years, I’ve grown into a hybrid role that bridges development, leadership, and strategy. I often support Scrum Masters and Product Owners by aligning tech execution with business priorities, facilitating backlog planning, and making sure the whole team moves in sync.

Since 2019, I’ve been working as a freelancer, taking on diverse projects across industries—from rebuilding complex e-commerce platforms to modernizing fragile front-ends. This journey has sharpened my adaptability and broadened my stack, covering everything from Vue, Nuxt, and GraphQL to backend orchestration and DevOps essentials.

Before freelancing, I co-founded Matise (2014–2019), where I grew the team to 14 people and transitioned from agency work to direct brand partnerships. My tech journey started even earlier with e-mmer, my first company founded during my Interactive Media studies in Amsterdam. From small brochure sites to large-scale apps, I’ve always loved making things work — and making them work well.

I value clarity, ownership, and craftsmanship in the work I do. Whether the challenge is technical, organizational, or somewhere in between — I’m in my element when there’s a problem to solve and a product to improve.

Project: a refreshed / Future proof e-commerce solution

Long-time development partner for Redlink, I was brought on to lead the technical rebuild of their Magento-based e-commerce platform. The goal was a modernized, high-performance storefront built from the ground up—without disrupting core integrations with AFAS (ERP) and Skwirrel (PIM). Together with Redlink's Product Owner, a freelance UX designer, and a backend engineer, we successfully delivered a refreshed and scalable store powered by Hyvä, offering significant performance and usability improvements over the legacy Magento 2 frontend. Key contributions:
• Magento 2 → Hyvä Migration: Rebuilt the storefront using the Hyvä theme for improved performance and developer experience
• Styling Strategy: Customized Hyvä's default Tailwind setup by combining utility classes with dedicated CSS, improving maintainability and extensibility of UI components
• Technical Leadership: Co-led the project as a developer and scrum master—aligning priorities, managing sprint flow, and ensuring delivery stayed within budget
• Seamless Integration: Ensured continued support for existing systems, including AFAS for administration and Skwirrel for product data management

Project: Leading Technische Unie to Headless e-commerce Led the transition of Technische Unie's traditional e-commerce platform toward a modern, headless architecture. As both team lead and senior developer, I played a key role in raising code quality, mentoring developers, and driving technical strategy across front-end and back-end. Key contributions:
• Managed and coached a hybrid team of internal and external developers
• Reduced QA-raised bugs over time through better development practices and mentorship
• Led the re-architecture of the Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layer into a unified and structured GraphQL API, consolidating data from multiple sources
• Enabled faster and more maintainable front-end development by improving clarity and consistency in the API layer
• Bridged front-end and back-end development efforts by bringing full-stack insight into design and implementation decisions

Project: Building the brand Brouwerij Victorie In march 2020 Brouwerij Victorie, a small micro brewery, was founded by myself and two other friends. With the three combined disciplines in our day to dayjob we have a perfect mixture between branding, communication and development. Brewing beers is just one of the aspects of building a successful brand and brewery, besides this a strong brand in design and development is a key aspect.
