Hello, I’m Joe.
I am a senior Microsoft backend and cloud developer based in the Netherlands, working as a freelancer on long-running enterprise assignments across Europe and the U.S.
I specialize in Azure-based platforms, cloud migrations, backend API development, and DevOps automation, working hands-on daily in C#, .NET, and SQL.
I am an expert with C#/.NET, ASP.NET (24+ years), SQL Server (28+ years), Azure (15+ years), and Azure DevOps (6+ years), and I frequently step into a tech lead role to help teams improve delivery, architecture, and platform stability, without stepping away from the code.
With 30+ years of experience, including 25+ years in consulting and 20+ years leading development teams, I have delivered enterprise systems for organizations including Rabobank, AT&T, the U.S. Air Force, Kaiser Permanente, Dell, 3M, and more, in environments with high expectations around reliability, security, and pace of change.

- Cutting production deployment times from 2 days to 20 minutes by redesigning CI-CD pipelines (OpenPath)
- Stabilizing a high-volume SaaS platform with Datadog observability and Polly resilience engineering after months of production failures (ListKit)
Beyond technical work, I bring real leadership and business experience. I co-founded Volare Software 17 years ago and continue to lead it today, generating $8.5M in consulting revenue across 33 clients who have retained me multiple years and across multiple projects to stabilize, extend, and modernize their core platforms.
