Chiel Timmermans

At Digilab, the Dutch government's innovation lab, I develop proof of concepts to experiment with new technologies and explore applications within the public sector. My current objective is developing Fundament, an open-source sovereign cloud platform for the government. My role within this project is architecting and building Fundament's infrastructure stack (Go, PSQL, Protobuf). A core part of our work is organizing fieldlabs - intensive multi-day proof-of-concept events where developers, architects, policy makers and legal experts from across the government work together on real-world challenges. I helped build and maintain the technical fieldlab environment: a Kubernetes-based platform running on GCP using GitOps (Flux), Helm, built with Go, Rust, PSQL and Svelte.

At Shell Energy I worked on a platform delivering electricity and gas to consumers on the Dutch market. As senior developer, I was responsible for mana- ging the backend team, mentoring junior and mid-level developers while owning the technical direction of the platform's backend. My primary focus was designing and developing a REST API to increase customer slef-service capabili- ties, collaborating with both internal Shell teams and external partners. The stack was built in Go, running on AWS with SQS for message queuing.

QR Link is a SaaS platform that connects physical and digital media through dynamic QR codes, short links and mobile landing pages. As co-founder, I lead the development and maintenance of the full platform - from backend to infrastructure. Beyond engineering, I'm responsible for business operations including customer support, invoicing and privacy compliance. The stack is built with Go and MySQL for the backend, VueJS for frontend, running on Docker.
